Information & Knowledge Management Courses by Part-time Distance Learning at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen

The Department of Information Management of the Aberdeen Business School at RGU has had an excellent record of academic success for over 40 years based on the fundamental premise that information and its effective management are central to the social, economic and cultural well-being of society. The Head of Department, Dr Peter Reid, and his team of 12 academic staff are committed to the highest standards of quality and best practice in teaching and research. Our ethos is centred on producing reflective, creative and innovative practitioners and researchers in the fields of information and knowledge management. The department was rated as the top department in Scotland and second equal in the UK for overall research quality in Library and Information Management in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise. All of our research is recognised as being of at least international quality with the majority (60%) rated as internationally-excellent or world-leading.

The department offers three Postgraduate courses of study in Information Management, Information and Library Studies and Knowledge Management leading to Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and Masters degree (MSc) qualifications. These courses are fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) which means that the course is recognised in the UK and around the world, by other professional bodies such as the American Library Association. We also offer research degrees including the Professional Doctorate in Information Science (DInfSc) and PhD programmes. Full details of all our courses and how to apply are available on our web pages.

Admission to our postgraduate courses is open to applicants with an Honours degree or with an ordinary degree and extensive appropriate work-experience within the sector. If you do not have an undergraduate degree but you do have significant experience of working in Information or Knowledge Management then you may be admitted to a Postgraduate course after successful completion of our Access Foundation Course in Information Studies. The access course leads to a Graduate Certificate qualification and, together with your sector experience, will permit entry to any of the department?s postgraduate courses. If you have a non-degree qualification or credits from another university or college then you may be exempt from part of the Access course, please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances.

Students who are combining study and full-time employment have access to our courses by part-time distance learning which is facilitated by our academic staff through our interactive virtual learning environment: CampusMoodle. Our department has over ten years of experience of delivering distance learning courses and we can also offer additional face-to-face workshops for groups of students to support this provision. Individual modules from all of our courses may also be offered to groups of students on a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) basis. The minimum group size is ten students.

To help you decide which of our courses might be right for you or your employees please refer to the following diagram which illustrates the modular structure, entry requirements and exit awards for part-time distance learning study on all our taught and research programmes; (Click Here)
