Today's economic downturn makes this a good time to better QC your valuable data
In the last few years, Oil & Gas data has been acquired at an unprecedented pace. Many companies could not process and interpret the data fast enough before the next batch had arrived. Data quality decline was an inevitable result in such an environment.
Since the economic downturn, data acquisition has dramatically slowed down. This makes now a good time to renew our focus on data quality and fine-tune our processes ready for the upturn in the business and the greater data volumes that will come.
To help us all re-focus on data quality, ECIM invited for a Data Quality workshop in Aberdeen on Tuesday, 16th June, 2009 in Aberdeen
Focus was on how other Oil & Gas companies are currently dealing with the challenges associated with data quality, and presentations of case studies and experiences to better understand what tools and techniques are available to help overcome the challenges.
An important part of the workshop was the conclusive discussions led by David Holmes, FuseIM, CDA, Shell, Total, ExxonMobil, Maersk, Schlumberger/Innerlogix, Landmark/RoQC.
Who is ECIM and what s an ECIM Forum Workshop?
ECIM, the Expert Centre for Information Management, is a not-for-profit organisation established by the Oil & Gas industry to promote the Data/Information Management profession, competence and best practices within E&P. Perhaps best known for its annual conference in Haugesund, Norway, ECIM also sponsors an educational programme in conjunction with the University of Stavanger and a number of joint industry initiatives. From its inception, ECIM has had a broad base of participation from oil companies, service companies and regulatory bodies. This has ensured that its activities serve the common needs of the Oil & Gas Information Management community.
ECIM Workshops are one-day events arranged by the ECIM Education Committee, which works to arrange targeted education services for Oil & Gas Company Data Management Professionals. The aim of ECIM workshops is to bring people together to share their experiences ? both good and bad ? on specific topics in the field of oil and gas industry data and information management.
This was the first time ECIM has staged an event in the UK.
