James Elgenes, Senior Manager Subsurface, Equinor

 

 

James Elgenes is a geophysicist and Senior Manager at Equinor, where he leads the Subsurface Data & Information organisation. Over 15 years at Equinor, he has spent roughly half his career working as a geophysicist across exploration, field development and production, and the other half leading within data and digital. He moved into data and digital both to help solve some of the persistent challenges around how subsurface data are managed and used, and because he saw the opportunities emerging through digital technology and AI. Still a geophysicist at heart, James is most interested in how better use of data can create insight, improve subsurface understanding and lead to better decisions. And somewhere along the way, metadata, coordinate systems, governance and data quality and engineering became a lot more interesting than he ever expected.
